Booking Your Rental Online
Hiring a car, whether to enhance a vacation experience or for a business trip can be an easy and pain free experience. Most car companies have their own websites that offer clients the convenience of car hire online. It is comforting to know that a vehicle will be waiting at one's destination, but it does pay to do a little research (such as looking up the company at BVRLA) before typing in that credit card number.
Searching the site of a well known agency, such as Hertz, Avis or the like will take you right to the source. Their reputation and longevity will almost guarantee a problem free rental.
If your heart is set on one particular brand, perhaps because your air miles card will earn points or you are a club member of that brand, then this is the most reasonable solution.
If price is more of a consideration or you just want to see what is offered at a particular destination, then perhaps searching online at a travel booking site, such as Expedia or Travelocity might work for you. These types of websites offer a selection of car companies available at a selected location, making it easy to compare rates.
Whether you choose to go directly to your preferred agency or shop the car rental market, there are some things that should be considered. Taxes, insurance and fuel charges are usually not included in the car rental fee.
Some car rentals include unlimited mileage; some have a daily allowance with mileage charges imposed after that is exceeded. Drop fees, incurred when a car is picked up at one location and dropped off at another, are also not included in most rental rates. Neither are fees for infant and child car seats, which are mandatory in some locales. Be sure to verify these points.
Renting cars at an airport location, especially in major cities, will give you a selection of companies to choose from all in the same location. Usually, since there is more competition the rates are more competitive.
Renting cars at a downtown city location is also a possibility, but may or may not be convenient. Ask yourself, how am I going to get to the car rental office, and how am I getting back to the airport? |
